About this piece
A hoopoe with its crest painted by hand. The crest is the feature, a fan of colour on top of the head, and the painting brings out its shape and markings.
It is a colourful piece for bird lovers, and a good gift for a birdwatcher, a traveller or anyone who likes unusual birds. It sits on a shelf, a windowsill or a desk. It is a hand-carved, hand-painted decorative item, not a toy, and it is best displayed where it will not be knocked. It makes a lively centrepiece on a shelf of bird figures, and it looks particularly good beside the Yellow Canary or the Wooden Crow.
